ANOTHER MUSE IT UP VOICE TAKEN TOO SOON

Legendary political reporter Jack Germond dies at age 85

germond

Germond was renowned for his no-nonsense manner and his cultivation of political sources around the country during a pre-Internet era when that was a crucial part of smart reportage.

Jack Germond in his retirement, became am author, at Muse It Up Publishing, Inc.

I had not talked with Jack Germond. For too many reasons to enumerate, out paths as authors...no as brother and sister at Muse It Up Publishing did not cross, even though I was very aware he'd come to Muse because of the

cover for his book, releasing TODAY, WEDNESDAY AUGUST14, 2013 has been available for viewing on our Bookstore sight for quite some time.

A SMALL STORY FOR PAGE 3 by Jack W. Germond is available for a sale price at the Muse it Up Bookstore of $4.50. Just Follow the AUGUSTPARTY prompts.

I never talked with him, but our publisher, Lea Schizas had many times, and through her tears, she announced his passing to us, along with his wife's heartfelt announcement of her husband's last moments. I include them here.
This morning I received an email about one of our elderly authors, Jack Germond:
Jack Germond is a retired newspaper man living in West Virginia. But like a Thoroughbred racehorse, a reporter never actually retires—he just writes about other things. The author brings his vast knowledge and understanding of the press and the business of getting the information to public to bear in his breakout novel, A Small Story for Page Three.
Jack's book, A Small Story for Page 3, is releasing this week, and it hurts my heart to realize he won't be around to enjoy the thrill of a new release.
Having spoke to him a few times on the phone...such a nice man, truly has broken my heart to hear he passed away. You can read more about this amazing man who was a fixture on Meet the Press on CNN:

For those that enjoy a journalistic/political intrigue novel, I ask if you would do me the favor of honoring Jack and considering purchasing this man's ebook when it releases, leave a review, so we can spread the word that not  only was he a terrific journalist, but an author as well.

The email I received from his wife:

At a little before 4 am this morning Jack passed away.  He went peacefully and quickly after just completing this novel, a tale he had pondered while writing columns, campaign books, a memoir and covering our politics and politicians. He lived a marvelous, full and well loved life.

I think he was a great reporter, I know he was a hearty eater and the good conversation as important as the food.  And yes, he enjoyed extending an evening.  He had a bold journalistic ethic, and that matters.  He was fortunate to spend his life working at a job he would have done for free during some halcyon times in the newspaper business.

Jack indeed played the horses always studying the form and hoping for that elusive triple crown winner -- but there was no such thing as a bad day at the track.  He welcomed the day sitting on our deck in WV watching the bald eagles who returned to soar over the Shenandoah and the blue birds nest. In the evening the sunset mirroring the day's end.

To his many friends, he appreciated the great company, story, scoop, competition and laughter.  He fit his life and times so very well. I love him and it's been great .

Thank you everyone for reading.

Yesterday, I spent my day at the hospital having my spine treated. The pain at times was bad, and I have a high tolerance for pain. My procedure will be repeated in two more weeks and in two more weeks after that. Will it be as painful? I don't know. They tell me each procedure will lessen the level of pain. But I'm here, and blessed with the ability TO feel. They did tell me, after actually viewing the MRI that they were amazed I'd been able to function as well as I have since this problem started on December 13th. As swollen as the disc has gotten and as many nerves as it pressing against, that I'm walking at all, amazed them.

Today I woke up without the extreme burning in my spine, down my right hip, and my leg. There's still pain. I'm not cured, but unlike Mr. Germond, I awoke this morning to live another day, and enjoy the clouds that are building outside, the storm that is coming, and the ability to work on the edits for two of my books coming out this coming December. So please, let's give God's newest angel a powerful send off. Make the sales of his book his finest hurrah.

Thank you.

And Mr. Germond, this is one sister who is delighted you found your way into my family, even though we never met. You will always be my brother.
Rest in Joy, and I look forward to the day it is my turn to meet your spirit and say "Hi."
To your family, I send my love, and my thanks for sharing your words about his life and parting.

Most Sincerely,
Lin Holmes
