I went into the recent sale list of MuseItUp Books and found myself wondering why some books set the world on fire and others don't? I find this whole process of what it takes to lure readers most confusing...I truly wish to understand it.
I'm a book cover hound myself. If the cover sucks, I'll pass it by every time.
So I decided to conduct a survey...I'm going to post some covers of the MuseItUp books in the top ten and above sales right now and you tell me, based on the covers, which you are drawn to. I want to see if COVERS are what makes them popular.
Okay...here we go...and these are in no order...
OK...the covers shown here are not copied in any particular way...except how I was able to copy and paste them here. Some are bigger than others, but that means nothing except I couldn't find the smaller ones in bigger formats...for that I DO apologize.
Now I leave it to you, my viewers to tell me if you are drawn to buy based on the covers alone...and if you are, please tell me which ones you are tempted to buy based SOLELY on the covers.

Firstly, congratulations Lin for being among the best selling authors at Muse. As for the Muse cover appeal, they are all great, even the ones on books that don't sell so well. Therefore I think the cover is a starting point but it takes a great deal of promotion and some other secret ingredient to remove the 'invisible cloak'. I wish I knew what that was.
I'll keep coming back to see if someone has the answer.
I start with the cover, than the back and maybe a quick peek inside. However, I will say this, I agree with Wendy on promo and that secret ingredient and that's why they sell real well/become best sellers. For myself, I tend to notice the more 'unseen' novels/ebooks. I've gotten to the point I won't buy a book from NYBSL. Instead I walk through the on-line bookstores and look for myself.
Congrats Lin! I know I love your writing. :-)
I must be a strange duck. First I go by author before I choose a book--usually.
I admit all these covers are great, the one that pulls me to read the back cover would be Into the Dark. I can't describe what about it that pulls me. Maybe the danger lurking there. But, if I liked the back blurb, the first few pages, I'd purchase it.
I like covers, but they don't do a lot for me. Told you, I'm a strange duck. I guess some readers are really pulled in by them.
Nice post Lin.
